PreHospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Provider Course

Prerequisites: Certification/licensure in emergency health care, such as first responder, EMT, nurse, or paramedic

This course is a two-day scenario-based program designed to provide participants with an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the body systems and the kinematics of trauma. The course provides an understanding of the importance of rapid assessment, an overview of the treatment for multi-system trauma patients, and the knowledge and skills of pre-hospital trauma interventions. The course is designed to promote critical thinking skills in first providers. EMS students receive continuing education directly from the NAEMT and nurses receive (16) hours of California Board of Registered Nursing continuing education.
