Nurse Assistant Certificate Program

Do you like the idea of making a difference in the lives of others? Perhaps you’ve been considering a career in healthcare. If so, nurse assisting might be the perfect direction for you.

About the Program

  • Six weeks to complete a total of 16 unit modules
  • Equips you for entry-level work as a nursing assistant, psychiatric aide, orderly, or nursing attendant
  • Prepares you to meet eligibility requirements for the State of California Health and Human Services Agency to take the California Certification Examination
  • Consists of theory and principles supplemented with clinical instruction and bedside patient care application under the guidelines of the federal and state requirements

In the Nurse Assisting Program, you will learn how to:

  • Manage critical nursing issues
  • Function alongside the healthcare delivery system
  • Communicate effectively
  • Respond to emergency situations

Program Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand basic human anatomy and physiology, and nutrition needs
  • Identify needs of the ill, report condition changes, and take vital signs
  • Recognize signs and symptoms of common diseases
  • Provide meaningful communication and establish cooperative relationships

Nurse Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Communicating liaison amongst patients and practitioners 
  • Long-term patient management
  • Basic patient care
  • Patient transportation
  • Treatment area management

Work Environment:

  • Nursing facilities
  • Healthcare agencies—hospitals and clinics  
  • Private home care
  • Urgent and medical care facilities
  • Ambulatory care clinics
